Ken's accomplishments are many and varied, both personally and professionally.

Born in Silver Spring Maryland and raised in Livermore, California, Ken received his Bachelor's degree in Health Science at CSU, Fresno. After having a successful career as a pharmaceutical sales rep and working with at risk youth he decided to move to Kauai and pursue some other passions; real estate and fishing.  

During his time on Kauai, Ken has become an accomplished realtor. In 2008 and 2012 Ken earned the honor of being a "Top Producing" real estate agent on Kauai for total sales. 

Ken also earned his Captain’s license in 2012 and has logged over 5000 hours deep sea fishing.  

Ken possesses a positive attitude, an extremely knowledgeable understanding of the Kauai real estate market and prides himself on being punctual, generous, and passionate about his work. Ken insists on treating everyone with respect and provides the highest level of service to all of his clients. Ken looks forward to establishing a successful working relationship with you.

Reside Kauai, LLC wishes the crew of Solar Impulse 2 safe travels as the plane that flies on sun power is up in the air and shining once again! 

Last March, Solar Impulse 2 began its journey to become the first solar-powered aircraft to circumnavigate the globe. But after taking off in Abu Dhabi and crossing Asia, the plane ran into some big problems during the long, arduous leg over the Pacific Ocean. The batteries got hotter in the tropical weather than the team anticipated, throwing a wrench into the entire mission. Solar Impulse 2 and its pilots Bertrand Piccard and Andre Borschberg left Japan and flew five days over the Pacific, but made it only as far as Hawaii before they had to shut things down last July. 

Fast forward to today, and the Solar Impulse 2 has new batteries, a new cooling system that can be manually operated by the pilot, and $20 million in fresh funding to keep the mission up and running. 

The engineers and pilots flew more than eight training and maintenance flights over the past few months, and the plane performed great. 

After several stops in the United States, the pilots hope to cross the Atlantic Ocean, and then Europe or northern Africa.

They plan to return to the Middle East by late summer, completing a 35,000-kilometer (27,000-mile) trip around the world.

21 Acres of entitled beachfront property has been purchased by a development team with both mainland and oversea investors who plan on building a 326 unit time share with six hotel units.

The “Coconut Beach Resort” site in Kapa’a is situated between the Courtyard by Marriott Kauai at Coconut Beach Hotel and Kauai Coast Resort at the Beachboy. 

The plan calls for a series of interconnected buildings, ranging from two-, three- to four-stories. Site grading should commence later this summer, with vertical construction work to begin in March or April of next year.

The first section of the building should be completed in about 18 months from the start of construction and the remaining buildings should be completed up to 10 months after the first section. 

RIM Architects has done the design, but a general contractor has yet to be chosen for the development, which is expected to create hundreds of construction jobs and 225 permanent jobs. 

A representative for the developed anticipates the new endeavor will be one of the two larger time-share products coming on the market and indicated shared ownership is strong and showing no signs of slowing down.

Kauai's time-share market is made up of more than 2,700 units, the majority of which are two-bedroom units.

The Poipu Shopping Village recently added four new restaurants, including Olympic Cafe’s second location. 

Olympic Cafe, which has been a fixture in Kapaa on the island’s east side for 16 years, will have the same menu as its original location, serving Hawaiian, Mexican and Greek dishes. 

The South Shore shopping center also added Bangkok Happy Bowl, a Thai bistro run by a husband-and-wife team from Colorado. This is their first Kauai location in addition to three locations in Colorado. The restaurant has a full bar, noodle and rice bowls, stir-fried bowls and other Thai dishes. It serves lunch and dinner.

Another eatery added to the mall’s mix is Anuenue Cafe, serving both breakfast and lunch and sells Kauai Coffee, Anahola Granola, Makaweli Meat Co. Beef, Lawai Valley Mushrooms, Kauai shrimp, and local produce.

Island Taco rounds up as the fourth restaurant that recently joined the Poipu Shopping Village. This is their second location. The original location in Waimea on the island’s west side, has a strong island following. Serving lunch and dinner, they offer menu items including wasabi seared Hawaiian tuna, kalua pork, blackened mahi mahi and cilantro lime tofu.

Poipu Shopping Village is on Kiahuna Plantation Drive, the shopping center houses more than 20 tenants, including Papalani Gelato, Keoki’s Paradise, Puka Dog, Sand Kids, Honolua Surf Co. and Crazy Shirts.

Ground was broken Wednesday in Princeville for the Makana North Shore Urgent Care Clinic. Scheduled to open next year, the 7,000-square-foot facility will be located just off the highway behind the Hanalei Fire Station and just west of Foodland.

It will provide around-the-clock services from a team of board-certified local and traveling emergency medical physicians. 

Founded by Dr. Ted Kimball and a group of emergency room doctors from Utah, the new Makana North Shore Urgent Care Center will offer 24/7 service focusing on urgent and after-hours care. In the spirit of cooperation, the center will work with local primary care physicians, allowing them access to x-ray and lab services at cost and will encourage patients to follow up with their local primary care physicians.

Additionally, the Makana North Shore Urgent Care Center will offer free continuing education to North Shore firefighters, lifeguards and EMS personnel. The clinic also plans to work with nursing students at the Kauai Community College, fund a college scholarship, and provide a shadowing program for North Shore students interested in healthcare careers. 

The clinic estimates it will serve about 15,000 residents as much as double that number in visitors. Currently anyone in need of after hours emergency assistance must now travel to Kapaa, losing precious minutes en route.

Funding for the $4.2 million project was made possible through USDA rural federal development loans and the local nonprofit Kauai North Shore Community Foundation. KNSCF is committed to enhancing the culture, health, and education opportunities in the community through charitable giving, said foundation president Bob Doyle.

Kauai's Blue Water Task Force released their March water testing findings this past week. 

The Blue Water Task Force is Surfrider Foundation’s volunteer-run, water testing, education and advocacy program. It is comprised of a group of individuals who, on the second Saturday morning of the month, paddle out to various surf spots on the island, and collect a water sample to be tested later in their lab. They test for Enterococcus bacteria, bacteria that indicate contamination from feces of warm blooded animals, especially humans. It is the standard test for both the Hawaii Department of Health and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

They also test some of the streams and County Beach parks not tested by the Hawaii Department of Health. They are now testing approximately 20 sites on a regular basis. The monthly results are posted on the Chapter’s website and also on the Surfrider national website.

Surfrider sampling over the years has documented chronic levels of pollution at Pakalas, the stream at Kalapaki Bay, and Niumalu Beach Park. They are starting to test Hanamaulu Beach Park, as it has been recognized as one of the most consistently polluted waters in the nation! Collected data is provided to the County of Kauai and the Hawaii Department of Health in the hopes of them posting warning signs at these spots and then take measures to stop the polluting.

The arrival of Island Air Flight 109 from Honolulu was met with great ceremony this morning at the Lihue airport.

The inaugural flight of the airline’s resumption of service to Kauai began with a blessing of the Lihue Airport’s Island Air facilites conducted by Kahu Kelekona Bishaw of The Kamehameha Schools Chapel. The ceremony was also extended to the first two passengers leaving Lihue for Honololu on Flight 110.

The arrival of Flight 109 commemorated the return of interisland air service to Kauai and celebrated with a gateside lei greeting of the 45 passengers aboard the flight with hula, music, and greetings from the Lihue Airport crew.

Island Air will commence service with six daily round-trip flights between Honolulu and Lihue with connections to Kahului, Maui using 64-seat ATR-72 aircraft.

Additionally, Island Air recently hired more than 30 individuals, including 19 for the Lihue station.

Island Air announced that in February, it completed 99.9 percent of its 670 scheduled flights with one cancellation. Its flights arrived 87.6 percent on time (arriving within 14 minutes of its scheduled arrival time).

Flight 109 was scheduled to arrive at 7:02, and like the sun rising regularly, the plane idled to the special adapted jetway just a few ticks past 7 a.m.

Hyatt Hotels Corp. announced its plans this week to launch The Unbound Collection by Hyatt, which will include Kauai's famous Coco Palms Resort. 

The Kauai resort, closed since Hurricane Iniki in 1992, is scheduled to undergo a complete restoration and reopening by spring 2018 according to news releases by Hyatt Hotels.

Other properties included in the new upper-upscale/luxury property collection are: The Driskill Hotel in Austin, Texas, the Hôtel du Louvre in Paris and the Carmelo Resort & Spa in Carmelo, Uruguay The four properties selected for the launch were inspired by places Hyatt guests want to go.

Mahalo to the The Rotary Club of Hanalei Bay as they answered the Weinberg Foundation’s community challenge on Saturday, February 27^th.

Rotary club along with North Shore Lions Club members came together with power washers, power tools, and trash bags to give Black Pot Beach area a welcomed facelift. 

The Weinberg Foundation created the Friends Grant Program to encourage and support communities to work together to improve a community’s physical environment. 

The Friends Program donates $10,000 to an approved nonprofit of the Rotary’s choosing, after the club volunteers over 100 hours of community service in a one-morning project. 

This is the 10th Weinberg Friends project performed by the Hanalei Bay Rotary, resulting in $100,000 being donated to local Kauai nonprofits. 

The Hawaii Food Bank-Kauai Branch was selected to receive the funds this year. The funds will be used to support the North Shore food pantries in Kilauea, Princeville and Hanalei.
