Kauai Lifeguard Association ~ 5th Wave Celebration

Kauai Lifeguard Association - 5th Wave Celebration on Friday, July 27, 2018 doors open 5-6pm.
Kauai Marriott Resort in the Grand Ballroom, followed by dinner, concert, salute to our lifeguards and more! Your support this year gives you different opportunities and tie-in selections that support our community minded safety campaigns. All monies go to support lifesaving programs in efforts to prevent drownings and protect our lifeguards with appropriate equipment. A direct donation to KLA is always welcome! In 2018, we will continue with our Ocean Minded Community Campaign with a focus on our LIFEGUARDS and the heroic actions that they do on a daily basis.
The KAUAI LIFEGUARD ASSOCIATION (a non-profit 501 c-3) works in conjunction with the County of Kauai’s Ocean Safety Bureau to HELP SAVE LIVES at guarded and unguarded beaches. Our efforts to communicate safety, provide lifesaving equipment for our LIFESAVERS, as well as programs that prepare the public for ocean safety has been most effective, “ONE LIFE LOST IS ONE TOO MANY!”
With twice as many people frequenting Kauai’s life-guarded beaches over the past five years,
they have the need for more equipment, more safety messages, more community programs,
and even more towers. Help them meet their objectives by your generous donations & event sponsorship.

International Surfing Day Saturday 6/16

Saturday June 16th 2018

Every day, the Surfrider Foundation and our volunteer activist network work to protect our coasts. On International Surfing Day, we pause to celebrate and enjoy the beaches and waves that we all love. This year, while we band together to share the stoke of surfing, we also aim to raise awareness of urgent threats to our precious coastline, like new offshore oil drilling. The theme of this year’s ISD is “Protect & Enjoy.” Head to the beach, take someone surfing for the
first time, participate in a beach cleanup and make your voice heard.

Join Surfrider Kauai for an International Surfing Day celebration and beach cleanup at Kitchens! Surfrider is collaborating with the B-Rad Foundation and Friends of Kamalani Lydgate Park.
Meet up at the Main Pavilion at Lydgate Park for a light breakfast and coffee. Then we will walk down to clean Kitchens to Nukoil’i Beach (Marine Camp). Lunch will be served at the Main Pavilion for volunteers around 11:30. There are other Earth Day activities at the park as well so bring your friends and family! For more information, call Barbara at (808) 635-2593

Surfrider Kauai joins with other community groups and visitors in doing regularly scheduled beach clean-ups throughout the year. We are proud to be one of the most active Surfrider chapters in the world. We collect rubbish and marine debris from our beautiful coastlines. Kauai Coffee has donated re-usable burlap sacks to collect the garbage in, so no new plastic bags are used. It is important to remove the garbage, especially the plastics, as they are poisonous to sea life when ingested, often entangle the animals, and remain in the ocean forever.

Free Movie at Poipu Beach Park

This Friday 6/15 at Sunset - Presented by Poipu Rotary Club

The concession stand will be staffed by Koloa Elementary School teachers and parents to
raise funds for school activities. Bring a beach chair and a blanket. Come and enjoy the fresh
air and free movie.

For nine years, the Rotary Club of Poipu Beach has provided free family entertainment
at Poipu Beach Park. The Rotary Club of Poipu Beach idea is to bring the community
together by showing family friendly films in the safe relaxed setting of Poipu Beach park.
We start each movie with a performance by dance troupes or musicians.
This event also supports the Koloa Elementary School PTSA as they offer a food
concession at the movie. This has enabled them to fund many extracurricular

programs that improve the quality of campus life for all of their students by funding
after school activities and supplemental education programs that do not make it into
the school budgets.
