Every day, the Surfrider Foundation and our volunteer activist network work to protect our coasts. On International Surfing Day, we pause to celebrate and enjoy the beaches and waves that we all love. This year, while we band together to share the stoke of surfing, we also aim to raise awareness of urgent threats to our precious coastline, like new offshore oil drilling. The theme of this year’s ISD is “Protect & Enjoy.” Head to the beach, take someone surfing for the
first time, participate in a beach cleanup and make your voice heard.
Join Surfrider Kauai for an International Surfing Day celebration and beach cleanup at Kitchens! Surfrider is collaborating with the B-Rad Foundation and Friends of Kamalani Lydgate Park.
Meet up at the Main Pavilion at Lydgate Park for a light breakfast and coffee. Then we will walk down to clean Kitchens to Nukoil’i Beach (Marine Camp). Lunch will be served at the Main Pavilion for volunteers around 11:30. There are other Earth Day activities at the park as well so bring your friends and family! Surfrider Kauai joins with other community groups and visitors in doing regularly scheduled beach clean-ups throughout the year. We are proud to be one of the most active Surfrider chapters in the world. We collect rubbish and marine debris from our beautiful coastlines. Kauai Coffee has donated re-usable burlap sacks to collect the garbage in, so no new plastic bags are used. It is important to remove the garbage, especially the plastics, as they are poisonous to sea life when ingested, often entangle the animals, and remain in the ocean forever.
