of Ni’ihau and traditional songs written by the matriarch of Ni’ihau Mama
Ane Kanahele. Ni’ihau jewelry appraisals will be available.

The annual Ohana Fit Fest presented by Wilcox Health, a 5K and 10K obstacle trail run/walk, is Saturday on the Wai Koa Loop Trail. This fun family event is hosted by the nonprofit Kauai North Shore Community Foundation. The start and finish lines, as well as a community expo, will be located at the new Porter Pavilion at Anaina Hou Community Park. Participants will climb, crawl and test their coordination on obstacles along the way as they run or walk the course. Day-of-race registration, $35, starts at 7 a.m. The race starts at 9. Awards and a free concert will follow. “Run the obstacle course and get competitive, or just walk and focus on the fun,” said Ken Rosenthal, board member of the Kauai North Shore Community Foundation and co-director of the Ohana Fit Fest presented by Wilcox Health. “This event is about fitness and fun, even if you’re competitive enough to win one of the beautiful competitor medals.” The foundation created its Fit Fund to give grants to nonprofits with a focus on health and wellness. MAKANA Waipa : Eat The Invasives is a unique culinary event hosted in partnership with Kona Brewing Company, the Waipa Foundation and it's team of practitioners, staff and volunteers on September 29th, 2018. MAKANA Waipa: Eat The Invasives 2018 will build on the partnership established in 2016 with Kona Brewing Company and provide an opportunity to celebrate community, increase awareness for aina based work and raise additional funds to support Waipa Foundation’s important programs and services.
In 2016, Kona Brewing Company selected the Waipa Foundation as a beneficiary for a grant in connection with it's launch of a new brew, the Hanalei Island IPA. Waipa is a Hawaiian, community-based, nonprofit managing the 1,600 acre ahupua'a of Waipa as a living learning center. Located on the shores of Hanalei Bay, Waipa is a cultural kipuka where people can connect with and learn about aina, local values and lifestyle. Waipa welcomes more than 4,000 lifelong learners annually, and many thousands more to it's farmers markets and community events.
Through MAKANA Waipa : Eat The Invasives a unique opportunity is created for local practitioners to engage with chefs and the community on the grounds of Waipa while also providing attendees with an opportunity to support and experience firsthand the food, culture and mission of Waipa Foundation. Chefs will partner with practitioners and highlight invasive produce and other ingredients sourced from Waipa and the surrounding aina to create one of a kind dishes. For more info or tickets Click Here

Matsuri Kauai

The 2018 Kauai Japanese Cultural Society’s “Matsuri” is scheduled to
be held from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 22, at Kauai
War Memorial Convention Hall, Lihue. The event is free and open to the
public. The festival will showcase different groups of Japanese talents
and to perpetuate the Japanese culture on Kauai. Taiko performances
and classical Japanese dances will also be featured. Usually a featured
performance from Japan is presented at this event along with some
hands on activities (i.e. oshibana, origami, oshie), crafts, kimono
dressing, tea ceremony, shodo, bonsai, ikebana, etc…
