HIFF37 film festivals will be held at the Waimea Theater in Kauai from November 16 through the 19! Award winners like OUT OF STATE (MADE IN HAWAII Best Feature and Audience Award for Best Documentary), WILDER PALMS (MADE IN HAWAII Best Short Film and Audience Award for Short Film) as part of the MADE IN HAWAII Shorts Program, and JIMAMI TOFU (Audience Award for Best Narrative Feature) will be shown and this is your exclusive chance to catch these films that had entertained and moved audiences at the recently concluded Oahu portion of HIFF.

Waimea Theater on Kauai kicks off with the 100% Hawaii made GO FOR BROKE: AN ORIGIN STORY, winner of the HIFF37 MADE IN HAWAII Moviemaker Award for director Alexander Bocchierri and writer-producer Stacey Hayashi, and is the definitive film on the origins of the famed 442nd regiment.

Ukulele virtuoso Jake Shimabukuro joins us Saturday November 18th at the Courtyard Kaua'i at Coconut Beach. He will be joined by Kuhio Travis, an up and coming performer from O'ahu. Chef Lucas Sautter will be preparing incredible tapas and light bites to accompany an evening of unforgettable music.

We will also be serving up ice cold locally brewed beers from Kaua'i Island Brewing. Known as the westernmost brewery in the world, Kaua'i Island Brewing is located in Port Allen and features 10 microbrewed beers on draft.

At Trees Lounge this weekend, and it’ll all come from the lips of the ladies.

That’s because the restaurant and bar has set the stage for the third annual Wahine Comedy Festival, hosted by Female Comics of Hawaii. 

The seven-person line-up is all female and Swartzkopf has pulled together comedians from Oahu and Maui —Kauai’s Kaiulani Mahuka is also in the lineup.

The Rotary Club of Kauai is pleased to announce the 15th annual Old Koloa Sugar Mill Run set for Saturday, November 11, 2017 at Anne Knudsen Park, Junction Maluhia Rd (RT520) & Emi Rd, Koloa.

This is Kauai’s premier 5-Km, 10-Km, Half Marathon Runs, and non-competitive 5-K Walk.

The Half Marathon will start at 7:00 A.M.; the 5-K run and walk will start at 7:15 A.M., and, the 10-K run will start at 7:30 A.M. The run will include a breakfast and microfiber T-shirt. Breakfast will be served as the first finishers arrive at about 8:00 A.M. The winners will be announced at about 9:30. Awards will go to overall male and female finishers and medals to age group winners. Metals will be provided to all half marathon finishers.

Registration for the Half Marathon is $40.00 at www.Active.com (search: old koloa sugar mill run). Registration for the 10K and 5K runs is $30.00 at www.Active.com until Oct 31st. Late registration for the 10K and 5K runs (Nov 1st – 9th) is $35.00 at www.Active.com. Late registration for all runs (Nov 10th) is $40.00 at Kukui Grove Shopping center. No race day registration. Hanalei Surf Company sponsors the Water Sports Swapmeet every first Saturday of the month for the last 18 years. It starts at 9am till Noon,
but people will be there earlier to get the pick of the litter.
Anyone can bring his or her used surf or water sports equipment to sell. This is a free event open to everyone. You can find anything from a classic longboard, shortboard, SUP, and even windsurfing. You might get lucky & come across a rare collector board from a famous shaper or rider.

The project is set to be the largest solar-plus-utility-scale-battery system in the state, and one of the largest solar electricity storage systems in the world, according to a statement. The beneficiaries of the new facility will be the customers of the Kauai Island Utility Cooperative.

AES Distributed Energy Inc. and SunPower Corp. are developing a new solar-plus-storage facility on the Garden Isle, set to be the largest in the state.

Boulder, Colorado-based AES DE, a subsidiary of AES Corp., said Wednesday it selected SunPower's Oasis Power Plant platform for its proposed 28-megawatt facility on Kauai. The project also includes a 20MW five-hour duration energy storage system. 

"As the result of a competitive bid process, SunPower Oasis Power Plant technology was selected to optimize the cost-competitive solar power generated for KIUC customers at this facility," AES DE President Woody Rubin said in a statement. "The combined solution of energy storage and SunPower solar technology will provide KIUC with the flexibility and reliability to meet their peak demand."

"We commend AES DE and KIUC for this forward-thinking, milestone project, and for using high performance SunPower technology to ensure long-term value," Tom Werner, SunPower president and CEO, said. "Innovation and proven performance are hallmarks of SunPower technology, which powers more than three gigawatts of solar power plants around the world today."

SunPower's E-Series solar panels, which will be installed at the facility, are set to produce 30 percent more energy than conventional solar panels in the first year of operation.

AES DE will function as the owner and operator of the power plant, which is expected to be operational by the end of 2018.

SunPower (NASDAQ:SPWR), which has been operating in Hawaii since 1999, installed more than 100MW of solar technology in the state.

Construction of the new Princeville Path has begun. Phase I includes about 1,400 linear feet of path running from the Makai 17th hole tee box (midway between Wylie and Kamehameha Roads) down to the Sandpiper Condominiums. This is the most challenging section of the total project as it requires widening the path across the golf cart bridge and reducing the slope of the trail dropping through the valley area.

Please stay away from the construction area & avoid walking and jogging in this area. Pedestrians who must reach the community and shopping center will be routed onto a narrow path between the work area and the golf course. This area is rough and requires pedestrians to walk very carefully. When work begins above the bridge, it may become necessary to guide pedestrians onto the roadside. Traffic will have to be slowed dramatically. 

Phase I will be completed by mid-December. The work on Phase II and III (down to Lei O Papa and Liholiho) is planned to commence soon thereafter. This will provide a great new 8 foot, ADA-compliant shared-use pathway by Spring.
