If you have traversed the Wainiha double bridges lately you have noticed a small floating barge with a drill on top. Work is currently underway to determine the density of the ground below the area to help determine how a temporary bridge will be installed. The bridge is on a Historic Highway and will be rebuilt as close to the original structure as possible with a few added safety features. The current bridge is temporary and was installed overnight with only a 24 hour closure to traffic. Rebuilding the original bridge will take time as it will be built in place and will require more man hours than laying a pre built temporary bridge.
