The event takes place in Anahola this Saturday and is one of the oldest events of it's kind in Hawai'i. Today through Sunday the Kauai County Farm Bureau hosts their annual fair at Vidinha stadium in Lihue. There's a huge variety of things to do and see including: entertainment such as live music, various rides, local food, art and agriculture exhibits, livestock, and vendor and non-profit booths. This year's fair is celebrating "back to our roots." Hope to see you there!
The Music and Mango Festival was held this past Sunday where residents and visitors got to share the sweet mangoes and music. What a wonderful paring!
On August 2nd the 2014 Hawaii Sand Festival/Castle/Art was held in Hanalei Bay. This free contest is hosted by The Hawaii Association of Sand Sculptors and brings together professionals, amateurs, and keiki for a fun filled day of sand sculpting.

As hurricanes Iselle and Julio approach our island chain, State Insurance Commissioner Gordon Ito, recommends that home owners review their insurance policies.
Hurricane insurance in Hawai'i typically covers wind related damage when there are gusts of 75+ miles per hour. Iniki, the last major hurricane to hit Kaua'i, had gusts up to 160 miles per hour. Water related damage is only covered if your roof is blown off and the interior is rained on. Hurricane insurance does not cover water damage caused by flooding (flood insurance is considered separate).

Reside Kauai would like to congratulate all the athletes who competed in the 17 mile Na Pali Race this past weekend. Reside Kauai's sponsored rider, Derek Moore, won the 40-49 age group for SUPs under 12'6". He finished with a time of 4 hours and 20 minutes. The conditions were extremely difficult and it was a major undertaking for all athletes to reach the finish line. Congratulations to Derek and hope to see everybody in next year's race.

This month the "FUN Race to Hawaii" arrived. It occurs every year from San Francisco to Hawaii.
The 2014 Pacific Cup was greeted in by volunteers at the beautiful Kaneohe Yacht Club on the gorgeous windward side of Oahu. Reside Kauai agent, Kelly Joudon, assisted on radio communication with the arriving boats at the 100mile mark through the finish and also the Leis & Trays greeting crew.
This exciting race began with the boats reaching down the Pacific coast to find the best weather, then they turned toward Hawaii, for day after day of incredible downwind sailing, culminating in the thrilling Trade winds, with steady, firm breezes driving them toward the finish. This year they also experienced torrential rains, lightning and a few broken boat parts which make for great story on the docks!
The boats arrived at record-setting speeds as well as somewhat leisurely seventeen days. It is a huge undertaking to cross the Pacific under sail, and for many a lifetime achievement. As customary the members of Kaneohe Yacht Club mounted an incredible welcoming effort; starting with a finish line committee and escort boats to bring the tired crews to the KYC harbor where they are welcomed to our friendly islands.
The islands offer fantastic sailing events and spectacular backdrops for mooring. It is a favored destination for voyages on their circumnavigations around the globe.
