Brookfield Homes Hawaii has begun reviving the Pilimai Townhouse Development.  The development halted when the economy went into recession but is now back on track and is expected to be finished in four years.  According the Pacific Business News, Pilimai is 191-unit project that is situated on 19 acres beside the Kiahuna Golf Club and has great views of the ocean, mountains, and golf.  The first residents are expected to move into the beautiful Pilimai in 10 months. The state Board of Land and Natural Resources unanimously approved Hawaii's first ever Community Based Fisheries Subsistence Area (CBSFA) located on Kauai's north shore community of Ha'ena.  With the goal of creating a sustainable resource, this historical decision will regulate fishing using traditional Hawaiian methods. This CBSFA may serve as a model to be applied to the rest of the Hawaii.

The DLNR describes the rules in regulatiions in further detail on their website:

"The Ha‘ena CBSFA includes State waters within the Ha‘ena ahupua‘a from the shoreline out to one mile.  The proposed rules would limit the type of fishing gear and methods that may be used, prohibit the harvest of marine life for commercial purposes, set new daily take and possession limits for certain species, and establish the Makua Pu‘uhonua (marine refuge) as a “no entry” sub-zone."

Located on the west end of Weke Rd., this rare Hanalei Beachfront property was recently sold for $13M. Starting Nov. 1st, locals and visitors will be able to use a new bus servicing Kauai's North Shore. There will be two shuttles, one will be an express shuttle.

Routes:

The express shuttle is a 14 person van that will operate between 6 A.M. - 6 P.M. and will start at various Princeville resorts and then travel to Ke'e/Ha'ena.  On the way back to Princeville the shuttle will make stops in Wainiha.

The other shuttle is a 15 person shuttle will operate between 9 A.M. - 9 P.M. and will travel between the Princeville resorts, the Princeville Shopping Center, Ching Young Village, and Hanalei/Black Pot Beach Park.

Both vehicles will accommodate coolers, boogie boards, beach chairs and umbrellas.

Fares (Each Way):

• $1 for Kama'aina
• $2 for Visitors

Hopefully the new bus will alleviate the traffic and limited parking on the north shore.

104 crews from around the world competed in this year's Moloka'i Hoe race.  Kauai canoe clubs, Hanalei, Namolokama, and Pu'uwai combined their clubs resources and sent 3 crews to compete in this year's 41 mile race across the Ka'iwi channel between Molokai and Oahu.  Known as Kaua'i Wa'a, their first crew placed an amazing 8th place! 

The entire event was extremely exciting. Not only did a Kauai crew break into the top 10 but Tahiti's Shell Va'a finally relinquished their crown after 8 years of dominating the race. EDT, another top team from Tahiti, passed Shell in the last 200 yards to take the win.
