Some of the most beautiful beaches in Hawaii can be found on Kauai's North Shore. During the winter months (November to April), swells and currents on the North Shore can increase, so be careful and heed warning signs when doing water activities. It is suggested that for your safety you visit lifeguarded beaches and inquire with the guards about currents and conditions.
Anini Beach Park: Features miles of white sandy beach and has the widest fringing reef in the Hawaiian Islands. This makes the lagoon perfect for water activities such as swimming, snorkeling and paddle boarding. Facilities are available but there are no lifeguards.
Hanalei Bay Beach Park: This two mile long crescent shaped bay offers activities for the whole family. The center of the bay, known as Pavilions is great for swimming, surfing and boogie boarding. There are lifeguards at this section of the beach as well as restrooms, showers and BBQ area. The waters are very calm during the summer and the bay is full of sailboats and from around the world.
Lumahai Beach: Lumahai beach is among the most beautiful and picturesque beaches on the island. This long stretch of white sand beach was made famous by Hollywood when Mitzi Gaynor spent time on this beach. Since there is no lifeguard and currents are strong, swimming is not recommended.
Haena Beach: Haena Beach is a slice of heaven where lush tropical jungle meets white sand beaches and turquoise waters. Please check with lifeguards about the conditions. This is a fun beach to explore and do a bit of beach-combing.
Tunnels Beach: Tunnels Beach (Makua) is the perfect spot for snorkeling and scuba diving. Tunnels is surrounded by beautiful mountains and is a favorite beach for surfing, windsurfing and kite surfing. Tunnels beach eventually meets up with Haena Beach Park. Park at Haena beach park and walk over along the sand, since there are only a handful of parking spots near Tunnels. There are no Lifeguards posted at Tunnels beach.
Kee Beach: Found at the end of Highway 560, the reefs here make for great shoreline snorkeling, especially during the summer months. This is where you’ll find the trailhead for the Napali Coast’s Kalalau Trail. There are lifeguards on duty.
