When I moved to Hawaii in the 90’s the quarantine period for a dog was 6 months, which seemed like a lifetime for the owner and the pet. A friend of mine who moved here then with his dog shipped the pet ahead of time and paid an angel service to go in and pet and play with his dog every day while the waiting period slowly passed. Today, things are much more efficient and Hawaii’s Quarantine Law has a “5 day or less program” that allows you in some cases a direct release at the airport.
If you are considering bringing a pet to Hawaii you would be wise to do your research first. The State of Hawaii makes it easy with all the current information available on their website and by phone or email.
