A meeting regarding the future transportation goals and objectives for the North Shore of the Island of Kauai was held February 22 at the Hanalei School. This meeting was to focus on the specific transportation needs of the North Shore with four additional meetings being held in Kapaa, Lihue, Koloa and Waimea to address the unique challenges of each community. It was nice to see that there is a lot of support and attention being paid to the island’s parking and driving challenges as it matures. A point that was well received is that the answer is not necessarily wider and bigger roads. Everybody agreed that the charm and ambiance of Kauai should be preserved. Access to Ke’e beach was addressed with the possibility of shuttles similar to that in the nation’s parks system being an alternative to the current congestion as well as potential solutions for Weke and Aku roads in Hanalei.
